The European Union is warning the US, China and other trade partners that it will retaliate in kind if European exporters and investors are blocked in their partners’ countries. EU officials stressed “reciprocity” as a new guiding light for trade and investments. European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem repeated her June 20 threat that the EU would retaliate if the US decides to block imports of European steel for national security reasons, using Section 232.
ECB's Draghi shifts tone on stimulus - 6/27/2017 8:36 AM
Shifts in terms used by central bankers often get market attention and a shift by European Central Bank (ECB) chief Mario Draghi in a Portugal speech is the latest example. Markets focused in on Draghi there still needs to be a "considerable degree" of stimulus in the Eurozone. This is a shift from his prior comments that a "very substantial" level of stimulus was needed. That has put support under the euro and pressured most European equity markets.
Senate approves Svinicki to new term at NRC - 6/27/2017 6:07 AM
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairwoman Kristine Svinicki has been confirmed to a new term at the regulator by an 88-9 vote in the Senate. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will vote on two other NRC nominees Wednesday – Annie Caputo and David Wright – but those nominations are not expected to make it to the full Senate until after the August congressional recess.
Reuters poll: Traders look for slight rise in corn, soybean ratings - 6/26/2017 3:04 PM
The level of spring wheat rated good/excellent is expected to be at 41 percent for the week ended June 25, steady with the prior week, while corn and soybean ratings are both expected to improve by one percentage point to 68 percent, according to poll of traders released by Reuters. Expectations are for winter wheat harvest to have reached 44 percent, up from 28 percent the prior week.
CBO to release Senate healthcare reform score this afternoon - 6/26/2017 1:19 PM
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation expect to release an estimate of the Senate health care plan later this afternoon, with the score to be released on the CBO website.
Italian bank rescue - 6/26/2017 10:15 AM
he Italian government on Sunday reached a deal to shutter two banks — Veneto Banca and Banca Popolare di Vicenza — as the European Central Bank Friday warned the two were poised to fail. The package could cost the government 17 billion euros ($19 billion) to liquidate their bad loans and more. The good assets from the two will be transferred to Intesa Sanpaolo SA.

The global consumer product firm's shares have risen on reports that billionaire activist investor Daniel Loeb’s Third Point LLC hedge fund has taken a $3.5 billion stake in the Swiss consumer-products firm. If gains are sustained, it could push shares in the company to an all-time high.

Trade talks between the European Union (EU) and Mexico commence as officials work to complete an update to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between Mexico, Canada and the US. The EU and Mexico sides want an updated agreement this year as a means of leverage on the Trump administration.
USDA daily export sales: Soybeans to Bangladesh - 6/26/2017 8:13 AM
Private exporters reported to USDA export sales of 110,000 tonnes of US soybeans to Bangladesh for 2016/17. The sales were reported via USDA's daily export sales reporting system.
Brazil ag minister headed to US on fresh beef trade suspension - 6/23/2017 4:28 PM
US actions to suspend imports of Brazilian fresh beef has prompted the country's Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi to head to the US to discuss the situation. "We will fight for this market," Maggi said on social networks late Thursday. However, Brazilian groups said the fresh beef halt was a small part of their export market to the US as most of the beef is processed and was unaffected by the US suspension.
